THE BLACKOUT AT GOODYEAR LODGE

One night just as everybody was going about their usual business the whole home was plunged into complete darkness making it dangerous to move about because of the risk you could knock into things you cannot see or have accidents.

the powercut was caused by a bird building its nest on the powerlines and pecking the wires, and down below, rats chewing through the cables.

A rat catcher was sent down below to flush out the rats and the bird shooed off the powerlines by a helicopter.

It took days to correct the power failure.

The powercut led to people buying torches and touchlights to see in the dark, of which touch lights were by far the best option because you could touch them in the dark.

The powercut meant fridges weren't working in peoples' homes with the result that all food went bad, so people had to buy food in tins instead, until power was restored.
