THE FREEDOM PASS
In March 2010 the freedom pass expired which meant that it could no longer respond when pressed on the oyster card machine on the bus, but could be shown to the driver, but, only until May 1st, After that date, 'no longer eligible, even to be shown to the driver.
That pass belonged to Bernard Cheeseman, so he got his cousin to take him to a freedom pass shop in Ilford. It was put on order and would be delivered through the post, but could take two years so he would have to buy an oyster card to tide him over, that is, 'until his new pass arrived.
Before it could be delivered it had to be checked to make sure that it didn't contain any viruses or spyware, germs that would make it impossible for the freedom pass to respond to the oyster card machine, and if shown to the driver could result in engine failure due to viruses leaking out of the pass and invading the bus's engine.
Once, Bernard Cheeseman used a biscuit as a bus pass and showed it to the driver.
He got fined 20 cakes and two loaves of bread, plus £350.
He even once pressed his head on the oyster card machine so he could use himself as a bus pass. For that he got sent to prison for ten days.
