THE MAN WHO WAS PUT ON SEVERELY RESTRICTED FLUIDS

‘At St Villiers Hospital a man was told he mustn't drink no more than one drop of water per day as his sodium level was dangerously low. This meant no drinks throughout the whole day, only one drop of water, ‘that's all.
‘It was the male nurse Paul Dome who told him that.
When the time came for the patient to take his medication he had to swallow his pills with nothing because water wasn't allowed, with the risk that the pills could get stuck down the back of his throat for there was no water that could help to get it down due to the profound fluid restrictions.
‘Even fruit wasn't allowed for it contains water.
‘At lunch time no gravy was allowed because it contains water.
Lettuce and other vegetables have to be rinsed, but, “because water drops are left after rinsing the lettuce had to have its water removed by putting it through the mangles.

‘A warning was issued out telling the patient not to swallow his own saliva because it contains water. ‘If he did he would collapse into a coma and die.
